Welcome to the Menard County School and Community Task Force

The Rural Substance Abuse Committee, with assistance of parents in the community, has developed a new social marketing campaign encouraging parents "to talk to your kids about drinking and drug use." Currently, the message is being delivered via posters, school calendar magnets, popcorn bags, billboards, and radio PSAs. All three school districts and many local area businesses have agreed to assist with the distribution of this message. Other possible channels of delivery are being currently developed... If you would like to help us with this effort, please contact Michelle Grenko at 698-8404, ext. 155.
Joining forces to improve the lives of children and families in Menard County Surveys of teens show that they want and expect their parents to play a key role in their lives. They appreciate you. They listen. They remember your advice. Even when it seems like they are not listening. Principle #1: Tune In to Your Teen The common thread among teens who do well academically and socially and stay healthy and drug-free is that they have close relationships with their parents. Listen, talk, and get involved! Principle #2: Guide Your Teen Expectations and rules provide support and structure for young people dealing with new situations and challenges. Principle #3: Respect Your Teen Research shows that parents who respect their teen's individuality help prevent risk-taking and protect their kids against depression and other problems. Principle #4: Be a Good Role Model Parents who set a good example through their relationships and social skills have kids who do better in the areas of school, employment, relationships, communication, coping, and other life skills.
